Water Clarity: 1 foot No rain since Hurricane Katrina and north winds for the past week have the water in the Mobile Delta clearer, lower and saltier than normal. I fished the lower Delta for four hours this afternoon with a neighbor. A beautiful day with air temp about 70 and the water temp varied from 65 in the creeks and shallows to 70 in the rivers. Neap tides today but with a strong north wind the water level did drop about 10 inches. I feel certain the majority of the quality bass have moved to deeper water and are migrating north in the Delta. I seldom fish deep (and today was no exception) so I can't verify that. We caught 15 or so bass but only one above 14 inches and only 8 above 12. My kind of fishing, really. All fish were caught on willowleaf spinnerbaits in less than 4 feet of water. Nothing on crankbaits or plastics. I don't think the fish were very active today because most fish caught were holding tight to cover, wood or grass and there isn't much grass left in the lower Delta. I saw many tournament boats on the water today, no doubt prefishing for the two major tournaments tomorrow. While some decent 8 to 10 pounds stringers will come from the lower Delta I feel sure the better fish will be found once again in the middle and upper Delta.
