Subject: Stick Marsh & Farm 13, Florida

Submitted by Hugh Crumpler, Bass Professional Guide Service

Date Fished: 10/30/2005

Water Clarity: 6 inches

Lynn Storey came Saturday to fish the Stick Marsh and Farm 13. Lynn opted to fish with live bait. Excellent choice with a North wind. North wind of 15 mph makes fishing tough in Florida. The water was flowing at the Culverts and at the Stpillway.

The only way you know what is flowing and what is not is to go check. There are some general indicators , but, you still have to go check. They can be turned on at any minute and turned off at any minute.

The water level was high with water coming into and flowing out of the lakes. Hugh Crumpler made the decision to head for the Spillway area. Hugh’s was the second boat into the Spillway area. Hugh and Lynn arrived while the first boat was still idling to the spot it chose to fish. Hugh noticed that one of three Culverts was running and opted to fish the one culvert.

About the time the sun showed itself the bass began to bite. They bit in groups. Hugh’s client had three rods out and at some times there were three bites at once. It was a very good day for catching for Lynn Storey. Lynn landed a bunch of four to five pound bass and he landed four bass over two feet long.

While they fished the culvert the Water Management Distric came and shut the culvert off. No problem! Adjusting to conditions is a talent and skill Hugh fine turned while fishing national tournaments. An adjustment produced two of the four over two feet long.

When the live bait ran out Lynn and Hugh went to fishing with lures. The major producer was a tube jig. Hugh landed one about two feet long among the many he landed with a tube. Lynn fished the tube well and increased his daily production numbers.

Look for changing conditions. They can’t keep the gates open forever. They also can not keep them closed forever. One of the larger bass had a very bloody tail. On the bed?? The temperature of the water is right. Definantly look for bass moving into the spawning areas and being in a prespawn pattern.

In 1974 Hugh Crumpler wrote a book about fishing spinnerbaits. In that book the terms “prespawn”, “postspawn”, “Slow Rolling”, were first used. That book was later published in an article in a national fishing organization magazine.

Innovation, dedication, competition, sharing another advantage Hugh Crumpler’s clients share and benefit from.
