Newton finally came through for us. When we arrived at the lake around 9 a.m. it was just starting to mist and there were over 15 trucks/trailers in the lot. We put the boat in and shot straight to our first hot spot and there was already another boater sitting there who said he'd just lost a bass at the boat that would've went around 7 lbs. We trailed behind him for a bit giving him the right of way since he'd already been there and all we managed to catch was (1) bass around 4 lbs. The rain really started to downpour and we were getting drenched. We headed back to the ramp and practically all the boats had left the lake. Only a few remained. We loaded back up and headed to town to the laundry mat to dry our overalls and clothes and then onto wal-mart to buy some rain gear. When we returned it was going on 2:00 p.m. We headed to one of our next favorite spots and switched our tactics. The rain of course stopped. Over the next several hours we managed to catch (19) Bass in which the smallest one was 17 1/2". All the others were 18"+ and quite a few were 20"+ with the biggest being 21 1/4". We then came upon some shallows and things slowed down so we switched tactics again. The spawning bass were pinched right upon the bankside and there were some monster boils. After switching baits our next several casts produced many more 18"-21"+ bass and I hooked into a bass that I fought for a couple of minutes and had her surfaced a couple times which was all of 7+lbs and an absolute hog that shook off. By the time we decided to leave which was very late the next morning I landed 25 bass and my partner landed 14. We missed a lot of fish but we also caught so many 4-5-6lb bass that it was absolutely incredible. This was about my 15th time that I fished Newton since I first started about 4 months ago and we've consistently averaged 40-50+ fish even when other boaters are pulling off the lake skunked. We've been pretty fortunate at this incredible bass fishery and I hope it stays that way! For any of you out there that read this and haven't fished Newton this should help you realize your missing out! GOOD LUCK!
