  Subject: Newton Lake, Illinois

Submitted by Brian Allen (ip 12.207.142.157)

Date Fished: 3/10/2006
Water Temperature: 61
Water Clarity: 6 inches

I fish Newton at least 3 or 4 times a week. I fished it fri. sat. and sun. and Friday not much pressure so I caught 20 fish 5 over 18 with one weighing 6 4. Was fishing a rick clunn trickster spinnerbait some rick clunn 1.5 crankbaits, and texas rig guido bugs. Fishing the main channel coves and points on the flats anywhere there was brush i caught fish. saturday was a little slower all we could put together was 12 fish 1 keeper but it wasn't a tournament just for shits and giggles so its all fun. sunday was only there for about 2 hours due to storm but until the storm came i was killing came up on one bank all the way down coldwater side with my trickster following another guy fishing a jig and he didn't catch any i pulled 7 off that one bank with 3 keepers just average keepers 18 19 inches. Went to a brushy flat on the far end of coldwater side and pulled 6 off with a junebug guido bug on a 1/4 ounce tungsten weight (1/4 is all i use seems to be key slows faller no luck with 5/16 or 3/8) only one of those was a keeper didn't weigh but it was 20 inches. The lake is completely full much more rain it will be out of its banks haha, but it was beautiful to see it that way again. Get the lake cleared up and it will be back to normal coldwater side not bad stained on the south end and slighty stained on north end of coldwater arm. Hotwater arm is just one big mudhole didn't even waste my time over there (which I rarely fish the hotwater side unless I absolutely have to). Good luck guys they are biting there as usual haha.
