Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Hi fellow bassers and welcome to another great season of bassn reports from the great state of MAINE. I finally made it out this past Thurs. with a friend of mine after some showers and wind died down and went largemouth fishn. The ice has been out of this pond for about 2-3 weeks and all ready the water temp is at 51 when I put the boat in. The weather was still overcast and wind blowing out of the south with scattered rain, but this mixed with the warming water made it right to fish shallow around all the wood in this pond. The deepest part is only 10-14 feet in a channel and the pond is mostly shallow, 2-6 feet. I started with a jig in the wood around the shore and my friend Dave started with a spinnerbait throwing out away from shore. It wasn't long before I heard those magic words, "OH, I GOT ONE" and Dave's first fish of the year was a nice 3 pound l/m on his spinnerbait. Well, we thought spinnerbaits were the ticket, and after a couple of hours of casting and winding and nothing bitting, we moved to another spot with wood and grass and all of a sudden we went from 1 fish to 30 in about 20 minutes all on spinnerbaits. Every cast or every other one we were hooking up with some scrappy l/m that were still to cold to jump but did try to make the attempt. All in all we boated from 30-40 l/m and fished 6 hours. The water temp went up to 53 so the fish are just starting to move shallow. What we all read about spring fishing is true, KEEP MOVING UNTIL YOU FIND A FISH, then fish the area. Where one is, more are likly there to. Take care my friends and have a safe and great fishn season, DAVID
