Hi bassers, fished in the rain and wind the last two days and heres the best i did. Fished plymouth pond on thurs. for 3 hours and caught 13 l/m. Nothing over 3 pounds but a lot of half to 2 pounders making for a fun day. Caught all of them on spinnerbait right up in the wood in 1-2 feet of water. Today i went to south branch to look for bedding smallies and SURPRIZE, the beds were there but the smallies have moved out to the first break from the spawning flats. The weather changed since last week from very warm to very cool. The water temps dropped and moved the fish off their nests because the full moon was this past saturday and most smallies in the smaller lakes and ponds should have spawned, SHOULD HAVE is the key word. We all know the bass read the same books we do, RIGHT???? yeaaaaa right. Well anyway, i found 10 smallies willing to hit my (can you guess what? ) yes, thats right, a spinnerbait. I started looking for bedding fish close to the shore and when i found nest that were empty i knew the weather had moved them deeper and i went out past the first break and threw shallow to deep and as my spinnerbait cleared the drop, WHAM!! a nice 3.5 pounder broke me off. My first smallie of the day but at least i knew where they were. I fished along the drop and 10 minutes later a smallies jumped along side my boat scaring the snikkies out of me. It still had mr spinnerbait in the corner of it's mouth and jumped once more and that was it. After i calmed my nerves down ( as you know we bassers concentrate hard) from the last act of defiance from the smallie, i continued on. In one cove i happened to look where my bait was coming in and all i saw was a giant mouth behind it wide open to engulf my spinnerbait with a hugh set of teeth and thank god quantum has a high speed reel because it was smok'n getting the bait out of the way in time. It made it back to the boat safe and sound. It wasn't long after that i caught a nice 3.7 pound smallie that looked like it came from close to it's neat right on the edge of the break. 10 smallies for the day with an east wind and driving rain ain't bad considering if i hadn't gone fishing today, the total would be 0. Attack on the smallies will continue tomorrow with some largemouth thrown in to make them happy as well. Take care friends and as always, stay tuned for more. DAVID
