Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater Hi bassers, as promised, i went on the hunt for bedding smallies today at my home pond and was almost floored when i put my boat in and found the water temp at the landing to be 54, down about 10 degrees or better from last week. The cold rain we got really didn't help me out any BUT, after i got into the main lake and saw the temp go to 57 i knew the smallies wouldn't let me down. I fished for 7 hours with a stiff NNE wind blowing but the weather was great as it was cloudy and partly sunny throughout the day and the air temp was warm. I started my search in the areas i knew had spawning smallies and low and behold, THERE THEY WERE!!! The beds, what you could see of them were in 1-5 feet of water and most of the buck bass were from dinks to one 3 pounder. And just to keep peace with the largemouths, i ended up getting a few of them too. It's always nice when we can all get along.lol I have never caught so many smallies on the bed by throwing a spinnerbait, but today changed that as the fish were supercharged. Anything close to their nest and they nailed it. I must have been the first one to catch them. I threw my spinnerbait when i was fishing deeper water and couldn't see The beds but knew they were there, and tubes when i could see the beds. I ended up with 46 smallies and 10 largemouths. I caught all my l/m on spinnerbait, 3 went around 3 pounds and the rest were avg. Going to another lake tommorow thats close to home and see what the smallies are doing there.
