I was fishing the lower end of the lake and finally found some larger fish shallow. They are after the bream/bluegill that are grouping together to spawn, so if you can find real shallow areas with bream that happen to be on the back corners of docks, try tossing a top water lure that looks somewhat like an injured baitfish. I was using a Bagley Monster Shad - 5" topwater version in shad finish (it has a prop on the rear). I saw three that would go 4lbs easy and they saw me too so I left and came back. I managed to get one of them to hit the Monster Shad by twitching it by the rear corner of a dock which had bream around it. I had four other bass take a whack at it but I missed them all. Maybe that lure is tooooo big. It doesn't have the best action but it apparently looks realistic enough. I even had a red tailed hawk come after it and I just couldn't get it away from him. The hook got tangled in his feathers and then he tries to fly off with it. Let me tell you, it feels weird trying to reel in a flying hawk. The story ends well though. He lands in the water, I cut the line about 6 feet from him, he flops around a bit and the lure miraculously comes loose and he makes it to shore. I get my lure back and he's a free bird. Bet that's the last time he does that!
