Water Clarity: 1 foot Fishing conditions in the lower Mobile Delta have not changed much in the past few weeks. No rain but the water remains high and clear. Bass fishing remains tough with the fish scattered and feeding on an abundance of bait fish, including shrimp. It seems like the tide pattern remains unchanged also, incoming all day. Today was not a good fishing day with air temps above 90 and the water temp at 90 but I hadn't had my boat out for several weeks so I launched on the Causeway at 11AM and hit a few (there aren't many) grassbeds near deep water. On my 3rd cast I caught a nice 2 pounder on a clear spinnerbait and thought I was on to something. I fished another hour before I got another bite. The same spinnerbait, but the fish was smaller. At 2PM the wind picked up big time out of the south and a thunder cloud appeared overhead so I put the boat on the trailer and headed home. The grass has started to "slime" and even when you do find a substantial grassbed it is almost impossible to fish it except for topwater, and they weren't taking topwater for me today. The bite will probably pick up this evening as the tide turns but fishing will remain tough with so much clear water and bait everywhere. Tournament fishermen will have to rely on an early morning reaction bite (buzzbait or other topwater)and then go deep around wood structure after 9AM. The same old summertime pattern.
