I practiced on Shelbyville on Friday 16 Jun for a club tournament on 18 Jun 06. Heres what happened. Conventional wisdom is that wk days are always better on S ville because of low boat traffic and fishing pressure. So I expected more bites than average and got them. The fish on the south end have moved to the points. I point hopped using a 200 Bandit in Threadfin shad. I found fish off points but in the 6-8 foot depth. The bite was strictly a reaction bite. Everyfish was barely hooked on the last treble of the crankbait. You really had to play the fish to avoid losing them. There was really nothing special. Hop to a point crank it. Catch fish. The weather was sunny and warm with a 10 MPh south wind.I expected that nothing would change by Sunday except the fish may move deeper and less bites with the fishing pressure. I was wrong. Sunday started out cloudy and drizzly. This kept the fish in the 4-6 foot zone. I started the moring by losing a 3 lber on a chugbug/frt runner combo at the boat. I then lost another on the crank from the same point. On my third point I finally put a fish in the boat. As it turns out since it was fathers day there were very little other bass fishermen. The cloudy weather kept the tuna boats off the lake too. So the fishing was excellent. My execution was poor. I lost 6 keepers . I managed to boat a limit weighing 12-4. No kickers-just solid fish. The guys with the kickers won the cash. It took a little over 16 lbs to get the money. Other baits that caught fish for other guys: T-rigged worms, bushhogs, cranks, buzz baits, chatterbaits. Jigs didn't do squat surprisingly. There were ALOT of fish weighed in for a small club t'ment. The only guys that didnt fair well were the bank flippers.
