  Subject: Rend Lake, Illinois

Submitted by TroyJ/Angling Alabama

Date Fished: 6/27/2006

Water Temperature: 82
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

I had the great opportunity to fish Rend Lake again this year with a group of very special anglers. The fishing was a lot better this year, as we were able to get the kids on bass, stripe, bream, catfish and a number of other species. Most of the action came fishing under or around the bridges with live bait, but a few bass were caught very shallow on top-water and spinnerbaits. Rend Lake and the Rend Lake Resort is a great place to visit, we really enjoy getting to make the trip up there.

I want to thank Bass Pro Shops, Ken Freeman Outdoors, ProCats and the USSA (Childswish.com) for another great special kids event at Rend Lake, Illinois this week. A warm thanks also to Rend Lake Resort, who provided another year of great lodging and fun for a group of great kids and their families.

My wife, Casey and I traveled up to Chattanooga to help transport 4 great kids and their family up to Rend Lake. We hooked up with good friend, Dalton Bobo, Barry Featheringill (BFHP) and 12 other professional guides and anglers to get some kids out on the water. Some went bass fishing, some went pan fishing and others went cat fishing, but they all had a blast.

Bass Pro Shops and Ken Freeman (http://www.kenfreemanoutdoorpromotions.com) provided rods, reels, tackle and fishing wear for each of the kids at the event. The support from these companies is a true blessing to these kids at these events. It was a 5 star effort by the Freeman crew who donated their time, money and boats to give these children a memorable fishing event.

The kids had some help also from Gods Speed Tackle Company this year. Gods Speed Tackle is a new company dedicated to serving Christ. We all give thanks to our Lord and the glory to Him for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this continuing effort.

Childswish.com (USSA) has grown so much over the past few years, bringing hunting and fishing wishes to seriously ill children. Through this we see not only the true meaning of caring, but the real meaning of hope. These kids never forget their time in the outdoors. There is truly a group of extraordinary people involved with making all of this happen.

My personal and heartfelt thanks also to the Bass Fishing Home Page and to FLW Outdoors who have been vastly instrumental in helping me get the word out about these special events. We are in need of anglers and hunters all over the country to take these kids on their dream trips, and it is always an unforgettable blessing to those who are able to share some of their outdoor time. Along with that, my thoughts, thanks and prayers for so many pro’s and people who do this work and are never heard about. They know their true blessing in life.
