Water Clarity: 0 I took my father-in-law up to the mighty river this past Saturday and as usual, we weren't dissapointed. We launched our canoe from Greenbush at 10:00 a.m. and did a nice leisurely float down to Costigan (taking out at 2:00). All told, we landed about 20 smallies between us with the largest being about 4 pounds. I was casting my usual spinnerbait while my F-in-law was using numerous varieties of Rapalas. The slower dead water on the east side of White Squaw Island is our favorite spot and is usually quite productive. It's a bit stumpy through there and in places quite shallow but perfect for a canoe to get through. The wind was blowing hard out of the South as we approched Costigan and was actually blowing us back up river against the current!! Only downer of the day was I broke my prop on the trolling motor as we were getting ready to take out - it must have been on heck of a big boulder we hit. But overall, an outstanding day, battling quality fish on ultralite tackle - does it get any better then that?? Oh, and the river was a little high due to all the rain lately but still no problem in the canoe. Tight lines all!! Pistol Pete
