Hi bassers, got up at 4am yesterday and couldn't get back to sleep so I did what any basser would do. Start the coffee pot and put the boat on the truck and prepare to head out for some top water action. I got to the lake later then i wanted as the sun was coming up and it was a very hot shade of orange through the fog. This ment it would be HOT shortly but that's not what happened. I started out with a big broken back jitterbug sitting in 15 feet throwing to 6 feet without a strike. I saw schools of bait fish all over the lake so i knew it would be hard to hit the big smallies with lures. I ended up finding a neat little spot i've never fished before that had deep water to one side and shallow water on the other with a rocky bottom going into a big cabbage and grass area. I threw into the middle of this spot with a senko type bait and my line didn't even have a chance to settle on the water before the tell tail sign of a fish was on. My line twitched and then straightened out and i set the hook. Up came my line but not with a smallie but a largemouth in the 2.8 pound range. The water here was very clear and i could see more l/m with him so i backed off and on the next three cast did the same thing. Now, the sun had burned through the fog and the humidity was going up quick (2 hours since i started) and i thought it was soon over for the fishn and the local traffic would be up and moving around. I kept fishing the area and it was loaded with l/m from a pound and a half to two and a half pounds. I caught 13 and a 2 pound smallie from this area and when i started to move out towards deeper water i saw two big smallies in the 3.8 pound range working the outer edge of the cabbage but wouldn't bite. Now at this time, the sun seemed to have disappeared and the wind had picked up. Clouds moved in and also a thick fog bank with them and i thought SPINNER BAIT TIME, YE-HAW...... I put on my clear water special and went to work. Not knowing if the smallies would be on the shore or on points, i watched a boat fishing tight to the shore and moving quite fast not seeming to be catching much so i moved out to 15 feet and threw on top of points and that's where i found the 4 pound smallie. One cast on top a my rod bent hard and the fight was on, or was it... a couple of runs and it was gone. But on the next cast to the same area another big fish hit and i played it a little better as he ran and i saw my line coming up for the jump and up it came, he cleared the water completely and i bowed to him and kept the fight going until i got him to the boat and landed him. My scales read 4 even. I held him up for a moment to admire him and then slipped him back home. I kept up the point fishing down the lake and not doing much, went back to the point i got the big smallie from on my first cast got another solid hit, set the hook and up came another nice smallie. When weighed it went 3.11, and was the football type. I fished two more points but the wind was really blowing now and the threat of rain was getting more and more likely so i called it a day around 1pm with a total of 20 bass. Also i wanted you bassers to know i'm sorry about my pictures not coming out so i went and made my own photo site. Please take a minute and look it over. It has photos of present and past friends i have fished with. Also please sign my guest book. I'm new to this so i'll try to keep everything going as smooth as possible. You came print any of my pictures and i'm not sure if you came e-mail me on this site so if you can't feel free to e-mail me at davebassn1@netzero.net and let me know how it looks. The site name is bass1.photosite.com, enjoy friends, DAVID PS... if you try and use the slide show, it has to load up first and then it works great.
