Water Clarity: 1 foot Fished a club Tournament on Smithland 15,16 July. The river was very clean with up to 2 ft vis. But where creeks came in it was less. Fished mainly Lusk crk. It was very brown but translucent brown so a lure could be seen down to 1 foot-some places less. The pool level varried from "normal" to 1 foot low depending on the day.
15 July 06. It took 9-15 to will. I had a small limit of 6-15, my partner (18 YO son) had a limit of 8-4. There was a modest topwater bite in the earlt morn-buzzbaits were the thing. Just slapped at chuggers would eat them. After the very very hot sun came out (those of you who fish there in July know what I mean by HOT)...we flipped weightless sinkos in white colors at the stumps and let them girate down the stumps. The best stumps were in 4-6 ft of water. The bite was undetectable ..you line just moved off. When the water started coming in the crk in the afternood the bite was best. other guys caught fish on jigs and worns too. Spnner baits also worked for others. I caught one river fish on a chattrebait too.
16 July 06 The second day took 11-15 to will. Both my partner and I had 3 fish 4-15 and 4-5. Jigs, senkos,again. My fish were caught on the river with senkos and chatterbaits. My aprtner caught his early in the crk with buzz bait and white senkos. The water conditions changed alkl the time but generally, they were pulling pretty hard.
Note one boat locked thru to the cumberland damn but had modest success. They couldnt find the SM bass but did catch some LM.
