Hi bassers, sorry i took so long to write a report. I've been fishing Wassookeag Lake a few times and decided to put my trips into one report. The two or three times i have been to the lake were ideal conditions with overcast skies, rainy and some wind to make the big smallies want to go on a feeding spree. I had a lot of competition on the lake due to all the schools of bait swimming around on top and throwing a lure was going to be a hard deal to sell. After all was said and done, it really shows what to much bait in a lake will do to the fishing part of it but will also make for bigger and badder smallies in the future as seen by the smaller bass i caught. A 14 inch smallie will look like it is a 1.8 as it is a perfect mini sized football like it's dad and fights as mean too. I caught a dozen fish in all my trips combined. 11 smallies and 1 l/m that was 2 pounds. My smallies averaged 3 to 3.8 pounds but only caught 6 total and lost one yesterday as it went air born on me on a spinner bait that had been torn up from past usage and broke in half. The rest of my fish were from a pound to 2 pounds and all of them looked like they are taking full advantage of the bait fish. Some of my biggest smallies came in a foot of water around grass and rocks on top of a flat. Burning a spinner bait brought some solid hits that felt like it was going to break my arm as it hit my bait and turned then went 2 feet in the air. Others were caught throwing a senko type lure on a med. spinning rod with 8 pound test. This is the first year that i have tried this as a friend of mine from Conn. uses lite line a lot and it works great in the clear water. Long cast and a lot of line watching pays off big. Well friends, i hope everyone is having a great summer and making the best out of a tough situation with the high cost of fuel. Take care my friends, DAVID
