Upper Chesapeake Bay & Susquehanna Flats Fishing Report

September 8th, 2006

The fall transition pattern is starting. The cooler water temperatures with the tidal water and fall pattern EQUAL Big Fish! The water is still dirty to muddy on the upper end of the Bay & Susquehanna Flats area, watch for floating debris. The bait fish are starting to move into the creeks and the bass are following them. As the cooler nights help to lower the water temps. & the water clarity clears up. The bite should be more aggressive. Our best pattern this week has been fishing tight on the wood in the creeks especially the wood that is close to or on the edge of the creek channel. We are using the Case Plastics Brush Puppy (Greenpumpkin/ Cooper) and Crankbaits Bandit 200 series and Excalibur/Bomber fingerlings in either crawdad or bright Chartreuse colors. The storms seem to have really taken their toll on the flats grass beds our best grass bed pattern has been fishing the matted-up grass in Furnace Bay for this we are using the deps Basirisky Frog/Walking bait in the Bone Crackle or Bull Frog color and Dave’s Tournament Tackle ¼ & 3/8 ounce Spinnerbaits, depending on the tide in the Bream color with my Thumper Special (Colorado/turtle) blade configuration.

Area’s Fished; Upper Bay/Susquehanna Flats, Furnace Bay, North East River, Swan Creek.

Water Temperature; Varies from 75 degrees (North East River) 68.6 degrees in the Havre de Grace (Flats) area.

Water Clarity; 6 inches
