Water Clarity: Not reported

Fished yesterday at Varner with repeat client Dillon Overton. On Dillons first trip with me back in June he lost a monster of a bass when it ran up in shallow water and beached itself before running back at the boat jumping one time and throwing the hook. So with the big fish biting he came back to Varner looking for another big one. After fishing the tournament the day before with a slow bite we started with senkos and trickworms and caught around six or seven pretty quick then it slowed way down and we just got a fish here and there until around noon when the fish turned back on and we began catching them fast for about an hour alternating between senkos, rattletraps, and trickworms. Dillon caught the fish in the photo which was his biggest of the day on a rattletrap. We didnt weigh the fish but it was around six pounds. During that time I also set the hook on a big fish that hardly moved on the hookset before coming off the hook. After a couple more hours catching a few fish here and there we decided to make a long run up the opposite arm we were in to try to catch a real Varner monster since he had already got one nice fish. First spot we tried we got nothing so we moved to one more spot and got lucky when this 10lb fish came right up to the boat feeding on shad just a few feet from me. I pitched a trickworm to it and it took it on top throwing water everywhere on the strike. Then I got lucky again when it swam over deeper water taking drag away from the boat after I set the hook on it with eight pound line. It was only about three or four feet from the front motor on the hookset and it could have went 100 other places where it could have broke me off but it decided to go to the creek channel. After a couple good jumps and the line hitting the trolling motor as it went under the boat in its last attempt to escape we netted the fish. We caught one or two more after it and ended the day catching over twenty fish with a ten pounder. Our best five went in the upper twentites. Fall fishing is here and the fish are biting. I have some days open this week for anyone interested. I will post a photo of the 10lber in another post later today.-Randall
