Hi fellow bassers, Bob and i made another run to the great smallie lake to get some of the big fish that roam the waters there but, the weather was far from being a clear water day. Bright sun, high pressure and hardly any wind so we had our work cut out for us. We started our in 10 to 12 feet over a grass and cabbage area throwing grubs and did pretty good with some decent l/m in the 2-2.8 pound range. Getting off this for a moment, as Bob was backing the boat into the water, i was on the back and looked down at the end of the ramp and saw a 2.8 pound l/m laying against the concrete at the end of the ramp. Not sure what i was seeing i yelled to Bob to stop and the l/m swam under the dock and i grabbed his rod with a senko tied on and flipped to it not thinking it would hit and on the second try i landed it right where i saw it swim under and out he came with a vengeance and tackled the senko and i set the hook and landed him laughing all the while because he did hit and i was still standing on the back deck of my boat and it wasn't even wet yet. Bob and i had a hard time getting smallies to bite but on getting to one of my "hot spots" Bob connected to a nice 3.2 smallie and shortly after that i saw a smallie swimming around and threw a small jig ( thanks Mike) to it and saw it nose down and grab it and it went 3 even. The fishing was tough but after the sunburns and sweating for 6 hours, here's what we had to show for it and it's better then i would have thought for a day like that. Bob- 2.3, 2.1, 2.1, 1.14 and 3.2 = 10.84 and Bass1- 2.1, 2.9, 1.2, 3.0 and 1.15 = 10.35. Yes , Bob had me nailed because we didn't add the l/m at the landing. I didn't feel that was being even when the boat wasn't even in the water yet. Bob's a great basser and even more, he's a great friend. On to today.

3 MILE Bob and i went to a club tourney and the weather wasn't the best for fishing with bright bluebird skies and high pressure so we started off fishing deep weed beds and started off with two l/m that went 3.2 and 2.5 and that was all there was there so we moved down to a large flat that went from 2 feet dropping to over 20 and never had a hit. We went to move and my motor wouldn't start so we fished our way back to the point we started at and went into a big cove no one had fished yet and threw jigs. After a while we caught and landed our limit of l/m but nothing big and all in 2 feet of water around cabbage, grass and rocks. At this time the biggest l/m we had by our scales was the 3.2 we caught earlier and needed some bigger fish as this lake will produce l/m in the 5-7 pound range and 3 pounders are usually common. We went even shallower and flipped reeds with lily pads and i broke off 3 big l/m that would have helped us but as time was ticking down, i flipped into a shallow weed bed and my line started to swim towards me and i set the hook and caught a very nice 5 pounder to cull a 1.13. Even with that we only had around 14 pounds, not good for a lake with big fish. At the weigh-in, we weighed in 14.14 for 5 and ended up taking 2nd by mear 10th of ounces but a win is a win all the same. Well, my buddy is packing up as i write this and the trip back to the great state of Texas is at hand, but the time we spent on the water will last a life time between two friends. Hope y'all had a great week-end and see you next time friends, DAVID.
