Hi bassers, the end of my fishing season has finally come. When the smallies stop fighting and just float to the top and feel like a wet sock, it's time to pack up the gear, clean out the boat and prepare it for another long cold sleep. I went to the pond yesterday and started down by the campground end as it was around 10:00 and a slight west wind was blowing letting the sun warm up the rocks up at that end. I went with my crank bait right off and after a half hour of casting and reeling, i was warmed up and ready to catch some fish. I made the move down to the island where Mike and i caught several smallies, some l/m and crappie and with in a couple of cast caught a nice smallie around 3 pounds. I was sitting in 10-12 feet of water fishing around rocks, grass and cabbage and even as cold as the water was, the cabbage was just as green as it is in the middle of summer. The smallies seemed to love this spot as i caught and released several nice fish from this one area. Most of the smallies were in the 3 pound range with one close to 4 and one about 1.8. I did catch some l/m but they were on the smaller side about 2-2.8 pounds. Most of the fish came from a crank bait but due to the sun being out and fishing around rocks, i threw a sus. 5" rogue and on my 3rd cast as it was suspending in 4-6 feet of water, my line twitched and i caught my biggest smallie of the day. Shortly after, the same thing but that was it for the rogue. Back to crank'n and banging a few more smallies and another l/m and it was about 3 pm and time to call it a season. A cold front was now blowing through and it was getting colder and the fish up and shut down. I ended up with 11 bass, 8 smallies and 3 l/m. This is the latest i've ever fished the pond and it produced very well over the last two weeks with lots of quality bass. With the wind blowing in my face as i headed into the sunset and back to my truck and it"s nice and warm heater, my thoughts are already thinking about next spring and fishing the pond and picking up right where i had left off. I hope you all enjoyed my reports over this 2006 season and i'm wishing you all have a safe and happy holiday season. Take care friends, DAVID
