  Subject: East Twin Lakes, Connecticut

Submitted by Jon Pski (ip 66.159.172.89)

Date Fished: 12/31/2006
Water Temperature: 40
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

Hit Twin today with Caveman (My son Jon)from 10 to a little after 4pm. The north wind in the morning was keeping things chilly but it soon calmed down and the whole lake went to glass. We threw grubs, hair jigs, jig & pig, and a little drop shot but the grubs and the hair jig seemed the only thing to be able to draw any action. Jonathan got the first bass of the day pretty quick from about 10 feet of water near the boat ramp. Wanting to get out of the wind a bit, we moved to the west side of the island near the tower. I finally managed to put a fish in the boat here from about 20 feet of water. A dang pickerel! I've been wanting to throw a blade bait on Twin but the bottom of this lake is littered with Zebra Mussel colonies.

We moved down the bank some towards the shallow flat trying our luck in the last vestiges of milfoil. I couldn't buy a bite but Caveman hooked up with a chunky little largemouth in about 6 feet of water on a 3" Sassy Grub. We then moved off to the large flat on the west side of the lake and proceeded to beat up on the yellow perch pretty good. These were nice fat yellows also in the 11"-12" range. I was throwing that little 1/16 oz in Alewive pattern, hair jig on a 7' light action rod and the big perch were pulling pretty good. Jon also got a few on his little 3" Sassy grub. We worked this flat from the shallow top out to 20+ feet but couldn't find a bass. Even went up shallow around the rocks to see if anyone might be sunning themselves. We moved around a bit more through the afternoon and still caught perch and another pickerel but it looked like Jon's two bass were going to be it for the day. We did get probably close to 20 nice perch though. Would have liked to close out the year with a fat hog bass but it just wasn't in the cards. FAREWELL 2006
