Water Clarity: 6 inches The Classic got me in the mood to go fishing so I took off for the Causeway from 2-5. The water was pouring in although there was a northwesterly wind. Decided to get out of the wind and went to the west side of one of my favorite bays. I fished clumps of grass with no results and then fished out in the open on some grass I located. I was able to pull out a good 3+ fish on a bruiser sally plus a couple of fish in the 1 1/2 pound range before I left to find some other fish. I caught a few fish on a stretch with isolated grass in a creek off the river and ended up fishing the pilings under I-10 the last 30 minutes. I missed a couple of good fish and right before I came in caught my bestest fish on a War Eagle golden shiner.
It was close to 4 lbs. Best 5 would have gone 11 to 12 lbs. Not bad for 3 hours of fishing. The warm water had a lot to do with it. The next couple of weeks should really be good, unless we have another killer cold front. The only problem is... can I catch good quality fish like these during tournament hours... After I got home it was great to know an Alabama fisherman from Demopolis won the classic. Congratulations to Boyd Duckett. He came through with the kicker fish and that's what it takes to win any tournament...
