Fished Newton today got to lake at about 10 am and started out fishing my normal way flipping sweet beavers, jigs, finesse worms, cranks, and spinnerbaits like normal. Cloudy overcast looked like it could rain all day and never did windy as hell till about 1 or 2 pm we fished till noon and never had a bite and finally I caught a fish on a rick clunn trickster spinnerbait it was 19 inches, and she hit it as soon as i hit the water had just enough time to click over the old shimano. so being with the weather conditions it popped up an idea in my head out of nowhere, so we ran to hotwater side and went up into second cove from boat ramp on westside and I threw on a buzzbait second cast another keeper already. Fished another hour without a bite shad scattering everywhere, so I throw on a Lucky Craft Sammy 100 and the fun went from there my friend threw on a zara spook and from about 1 45 till about 6 30 pm we caught fish left and right on topwater and ended up with 7 keepers and I had a hawg on that broke my line but luckily she spit the bait back out and got to back and get it. We didn't count but I am guessing we caught around 25 30 fish on a sammy and spook and also missed a lot which goes with topwater sometimes. we fished anywhere from 64-71 degree water back in coves and submerged island over by damn. A majority of the fish we caught had red bloody tails and there pooper was all red like they had spit out eggs already and they were skinny not fat like we have been catching so I don't know if it was postspawn or just protecting their eggs. But all and all it was the best day I've had all year and from working that sammy all day my wrist has never been so sore in my life lol. Have a good weekend and catch a big one and sorry for the long report.
