Water Temperature: 65
Water Clarity: 1 foot

Took my 11-year old son down to Lake Fork for four days of fishing. Started April 1st fishing with Dave Parsons and it was pretty slow after the 4" of rain the area received Friday night. We caught 8, the biggest about 4. My son got to reel them all in, and finally at the end of the day caught one himself. Fished brush hawgs most of the day and a jig a little in 4-8' of water. Dave was great and gave my son some valuable tips about using a baitcaster and how to fish slow. From reports at lunch and the ramp, we did as well as anyone.

Well, if we thought day 1 was slow, we didn't know what we were in for until April 2nd. We got 2 fish in the afternoon off one point and that was it. Again big fish was about 4. One was caught one a carolina rig baby brush hawg, the other on a watremelon fluke. Again, our day was as good as anyones.

Despite the slow fishing, April 3rd dawned and my sons prediction was, "I'm going to catch a big one today." Ah, the optimism of youth. Day 2 we had fished with Tom Evans and day 3 Tom was convinced the fish had to start biting. About 7:30 we pull up on a bank that Tom says holds big fish. He sticks one about 2 lbs on his second or third cast. The south wind was blowing pretty good so we tie off to a tree. Watermelon fluke out towards the bank, 11 year-old reeling in an eleven pounder! Despite getting wrapped around a tree we got the fish in the boat. Lots of pics and she goes back in the water. That morning we fished a 400 yard stretch and got about 7-8. In the afternoon we found some bed fish and my son got to catch a couple of those. About 12-14 that day. Afternoon highlight was me missing one on a fluke, my son throwing right behind me and catching it!

Last day we went out with Rick Loomis and a cold-front had moved in, with the wind blowing strong from the north. Found a cove and caught 6 or so in the AM. Told my son when he caught one we'd go get lunch. 5 minutes later we are on plane after he outfishes me in the AM. After lunch we went looking for bedding fish and found a couple but they weren't wanting to bite. Again, we fished just off spawning flats with lizards to catch em. Day ended with my son catching one around 3. About 12 or so fish for the day. Ike is my son's favorite angler and Rick asked my son Tommy if he had any advice for Ike when he shows up next week. Better read this report Mike--Tommy said, "Tell him to fish the wood!"

We didn't catch alot, but did get the one about 11, a six, and a couple 5's...but the real highlight was spending 4 days on the water with my son!!!
