Glen Shoals Lake, Hillsboro, IL 15 April 07

Weather: The deep cold air mass of late holds on. Several lows have passed through including one the day before fishing. The day was bluebird and blustery with winds out of the WNW at 15 gusting to 20. Air temps: a frosty 33 F at TO and 58F at weigh-in Water color (depth to see white spinner bait)= 6 inches. The water from the bridge south was very dirty. North of the bridge it was cleaner (1 foot). Water temps: Remained at a cold 45-48F depending on location. In the cleaner water north it was closer to 45 south closer to 48. The shallows did not warm during the day. Lake limit=3 15 inches.

My catch=one fish 2lbs 10ozs. 16 guys fished only 4 fish were caught: 3-0, 2-12, 2-10, 2-4

Once again the cold weather has made fishing very miserable. Unlike LOE last week Glen Shoals Lake had very cold water temps. In addition the lake was very dirty and fished very small due to the wind. I prefished two days previous and managed one fish on a Lake T colored jig. I knew it was going to be tough on Sunday-and it was. 16 guys had 5 bites and 4 keepers were caught.. My partner and I managed only two bites all day. His was short- mine bumped. His was on a watermellon red senko mine on a white spinner bait. Both fish were in the shallow weeds. It really isn’t worth a lot of discussion about fishing because there simply weren’t enough bites to establish any pattern. The day was very disappointing because this lake usually yields some great catches early in the year with at least one 6lb class fish caught. But the water temps at this time are normally in the upper 50’s. In summary the cold, muddy water combined with a strong cold post front basically killed the fishing.
