Date Fished: 4/23/2007 Fished Ouachita over the weekend. What a difference in water level from a year ago. Did not check but am guessing that pool is a bit high - maybe 2-3 ft. Shoreline brush and trees are flooded w/ as much as 2-3' of water in some places. Fish are all up in it, too. Found fish shallow - less than a foot in some places - and along the first drop in the grassline. Bites were very aggressive on slow baits (Pac Tac jig, senko), so-so on moving baits (spinner, crank). Only discernible pattern was wood: logs, buckbrush, submerged brush. Bait had to be in the exact spot before they'd hit it. Saw lots of cruising fish over grass flats. Also saw shad (in good numbers) stacked up in the backs of coves/creeks. One observation: while the grass is present in just about every place I saw over the weekend, it doesn't seem to be as robust/thick as it was last year. I'm guessing the current water level is a bit deceiving. The grass I'm pulling up on cranks is very lush and deep green (healthy). It won't take long for the grass to catch up to the water level when the heat kicks in. Tight lines. ATW, B
