This is a "Classic " story about the one that got away. Been on vacation this week and have fished Ray Bob 3 times in 5 days. Caught a whole bunch of Sand Bass and approx. 6 spots (all under the slot)Blacks are in at approx. 14 (about half under and half in the slot)

I have not fished this lake very much but am trying desperately to learn it. I ventured into the northeast arm today in flooded timber. A BEAUTIFUL spot with lots of rock. wood and clear water. Highest temp at 2:30pm was 74. Okay so I get to the spot and it was very overcast. I am in 20 feet of water and look toward the bank of rocks and see what I believe is a very big carp. I throw a spinnerbait at it to be sure and the fish chases it. It gets close and it is the largest bass I have ever seen swimming in a lake and not in captivity. I have personally caught 10lb plus bass. I throw everything in my boat at this fish and finally try swim baits and the fish chased them immediately and bit 5 in half. I then throw a senko and large tube and the fish slaps at both. I then put on a fluke in hopes of not getting a short strike. BINGO, the fish takes it good and I stick her right at the boat and the hook pops out. I keep working her and after another 15 minutes she hits my fluke again and I stick her again.I have her at the boat about to lip her and the hook falls out as I Had hit her in the roof of her mouth. Needless to say I was weak as a baby and shaking to beat the band. The bass had to be easily 12-13 lbs and what appeared to be 24-26 inches long and some of the most beautiful markings I have ever seen on a bass. Just had to share the story and get it out of my system. Lesson learned...I take the net with me next time I am alone!!!!! This fish was NOT on a bed but was suspending in trees about 3 feet down in timber standing in 25 feet of water.
