Date Fished: 5/19/2007 Thought I might avoid the weekend pleasure boaters and big TXs by going to Catherine - guessed right. Was pretty quiet. One small club TX - that was it. Launched @ Remmel Dam. Saw 63 degrees at launch, warmed to 68 by noon. Water was clearer (4+' viz) closer to the dam; stained (2-3' viz) in the pockets/coves mid- and uplake. Spent most of my time midlake. Found fish holding tight to wood - isolated stumps/logs, dock pilings - and rock (riprap). No real pattern as far as depth was concerned - caught them 2' to ~12'. Not a lot of bites but the few I did get were solid, aggressive hits. Jig and senkos (greens for both) accounted for most of my fish. Had one on a shad pattern Bomber medium diver, one on a Bandit 100 (bluegill). No topwater hits (Sammy). Where the bass were a little lethargic today the gar made up for the lack of action. Had one about 4' long nail the Bandit crank. Had a fun fight for about, oh, 3 minutes before the rat bastard bit thru my line. Noticed what looked like submerged grass in a couple of coves @ midlake. Did not pick any up on crank or bottom baits though. Have not seen grass in this lake in the two years I've been here. I'm wondering if some of the seed from Ouachita might have slipped thru the dams and settled in here. That or someone brought it in on their boat/trailer. Anyone else seeing this??? Tight lines.
