  Subject: Cane Creek, Arkansas

Submitted by 31Airborne (ip 155.153.20.1)

Date Fished: 5/21/2007
Water Temperature: 78
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Where to begin? Half of me says stay away from this place (saw two boats trash their trolling motors and another crack the hull on stumps). The other half says 'go back because this lake has gotta hold good fish'. Can't say I really fished this lake because we never ventured more than 400 yards from the state park ramp.

On what little we did see, we found fish holding tight to wood (duh - this lake it nothing but wood) fairly shallow (2-4') w/ senkos (had to have a little red in it). Isolated stumps, tree trunks, and laydowns were best. Had very few bites but all were pretty aggressive. Lots of pecks from panfish in between. No takers on topwater, frog, or moving baits.

The park and facilities are first rate. Drove around the place before leaving. An impressive little set-up. You Arkansans are blessed in this regard - have not seen a bad state park yet (and I've seen quite a few in 2 years).

Water was fairly clear but stained (tea color). 72 degrees at launch, 78 by noon.

If you go to Cane Creek, recommend going w/ someone who knows it well. Get out and see all of what this little lake has to offer (and it's obviously a lot). We fished what had to be the most pressured area on the lake. If you are fortunate enough to own an aluminum boat along w/ your fiberglas rig, take the tincan. From my view (very limited, I confess), it's just not worth the risk.

Tight lines.

ATW, B
