Hi All, I typed a small novel for this report , but my comp l;ocked up so i'll give the brief version. Went to Winona Lake near Meredith for first trip there ever (Sat morning). Been dreaming of being on the water at first light, so.... of course I woke up late. Finally arrived about 620am. Pretty lake next to small steep mountain. Saw bunch of small LM near ramp and donated a pint of blood to the horde of vicious mosuitoes that attacked us at launch. Once on the water it was beautiful. mLong narrow lake with pretty small islands. Water was like a mirror. Picked up two smallish 1.5lbs smallies on first point with topwater torpedo (silver). It was my last one and has caught a ton of big fish,....so my son throws it 40 ft. into a tree, 5 sec. after I warn him to watch those overhanging limbs.Still there. Fished top for 30 min when the fish began to slam our POp-Rs. Fishing got red hot... so of course the mirrored lake disappeared and we had 316mph wind and near white caps. Fought the good fight and gave up(I was spending 98.4% of my time and effort controlling the boat and occasionally able to fling a lure) and headed behind an island. Topwater dropped off but we saw a bunch of Big SM bedded and we harrassed thenm for about two hours and caught 8 BIG SM( prob. avg 3.75, biggest about 5.2lbs) Lost about 15 more,(they mustof took one look at the pathetic rig I call a bass boat and wanted no part of it.)so threw the hook. Guess what we were catching thes guys on? Gitzit tube jigs. Some raced out of bed and slammed it. Many would not do more than look and nibble so I tried every lure in my box with no luck,.... unti I went waaaay baack to circa1977? and pulled out ..don't laugh...a 2inch white Mister Twister(little white curly tail grub) prob i/8 oz pink jig head. We caught and hooked and lost MOST of these lockjawed bass using this lure. Every bass attacked this thing!! Downside was, the fish that bit the big Gitzits w big hooks were landed, only they usually wouldn't hit it. But they all slammed the twister but because of how tiny it is we lost 2 fish for every one we landed. Still had a blast. REleased em all but got plenty of pics. Nice structure all along shore near road. I recommend this place for sure. Also hit a couple we saw just cruising by. Usually they ignore me. Going to Grafton Monday am. Twins
