I fished Door County on 6-7 and 6-8. We stayed in Ephraigm and it was my intent to launch a boat from there. Due to high winds and approaching storms, however, I was forced to fish from Anderson dock in Ephraigm. I fished a net total of about 2 hours.

I caught 5 smallies, the largest was 17". I caught the 17" and another one on a 1/4 oz white SOB Mini-Me spinnerbait with double willow blades. One other fish was caught on a chartreuse Mini-Me in the same style. The two other fish were caught on an SOB lipless crankbait in a Texas red craw color. SOB lures makes their spinnerbaits by hand so you can customize them any way you like. I highly recommend all of their lures.

I also tried out some new tackle. I really liked the Duo-Lock 9/16" snaps. I did not like the BPS fluorcarbon line (breakage). I normally use InvisX fluoro made by Seagur and I will probably go back to that. For the past year or so I have been bending down the barbs on all my lures and I have not lost one fish since doing so.

I caught the 17" during the first 30 minutes of fishing. I casted the white Mini-Me perpindicular to the dock and while reeling in, I saw a huge smallie go by alongside the dock with the 17" not far behind. The 17" took a short right turn and nailed the bait. With the water being so clear I had a great view of the fish striking the bait. That sight never fails to give me goosebumps. The fish did not have a mark on it and after starring in its own commercial with the camera, was laid back in the water.

From what I could gather, it seems that the spawn is complete or nearly so. There was a large smallie tournament up there in mid-May and I think the winning sack was 57#.
