Jimmy Everett’s Lake Fork Report WWW.FISHINLAKEFORK.COM

The early bite still remains good for numbers on many different baits. The most exciting has been a decent top water bite. Fish baits like a Super Spook Jr., small buzz baits, and torpedoes in shad colors. My best bite has been located on grass beds and grass edges located in 2 to 6 feet of water. Once the top water bite slows down try picking up a Gary Yamamoto cut tail worm in watermelon/red rigged texas style or wacky style with a small amount of weight. Fish them slow with light twitches for good results. Also a Gary Yamamoto Senko or Shad type twitch bait in watermelon with a chart. dyed tail has also picked up there share of fish in the last week. Work all these baits over and around the grass beds located all over the lake.

The in-between bite has been very good many days. Look for offshore structure such as humps, creek bends, road beds, etc located in 10 to 15 feet of water. My best baits have been a carolina rigged Gary Yamamoto Kreature in watermelon/red, a shad colored DD22, and a ½ ounce Strike Works Tackle Wood Jig in watermelon/red with a black/blue Gary Yamamoto Craw. For the rig and jig keep them on the bottom with slow movements just crawling along very slowly with long pauses. The DD22 needs to be fished on light line like 12lb test to make sure it is bumping the bottom as much as possible.

For those looking for good quality fish I would suggest deep water. Start by graphing humps, points, ridges, drop offs, and road beds. They are all holding some amounts of fish. Look for large amounts of bait fish by the fish for the most active bass to catch. There are many deep water patterns and depths that are holding fish. Now some of the suspended fish have moved to the bottom so you have a mixture of suspended fish and fish on the bottom. I’m catching are suspended in 20 to 35 feet of water. Each spot and everyday the are suspended at different depths. My best baits and pretty much only baits I have been throwing at these suspended fish have been a Gary Yamamoto 5inch saltwater swim bait in shad colors. I’m throwing it on a ¾ ounce Gary Yamamoto swim bait jig head. I also have been throwing a bunker colored Storm wild eye swim shad in the 4 inch and 5 inch models. The bites on this baits have been very aggressive and have all been of good quality. For those bottom feeders tie up a carolina rig and a drop shot. I have been fishing the same places with the swim baits, carolina rig, and the drop shot. Try switching them up many times on each spot. On the rig I have been using a Gary Yamamoto Kreature in shades of watermelon or green pumpkin with chart. dyed tails. Slow pulls have been the big key. On the drop shot a methiolate or watermelon/red 5 ¾ inch cut tails have been starting to work better. One other bait that has produced some nice fish has been a 1 ounce jig in a watermelon/chart color with a black/blue Gary Yamamoto Craw as a trailer. I have worked these bait’s a few different ways in the same areas as the other deep water baits. One way has been to crawl it along the bottom like a carolina rig and the other is to hop it up and let it fall straight down to the bottom. The bites have been good and I have caught a few fish swimming the jig in after my cast. Make sure to work all your baits all the way back to the boat on all your baits.

I still have June 25 and 26 open, also July 2, 4, 5, 9 and other scattered dates throughout the month of July.
