Haven't posted in a while. I have been fishing the Winthrop and Belgrade area lakes all summer, and the fishing never slowed down for me. My best lakes have been Wilson, Torsey, and Androscoggin.

Last Saturday afternoon I fished Wilson for 4 hours and concentrated on the shallow wood on the west and very windy (that day) side of the lake. I threw spinnerbait, perch rap, jig and chunk, and topwater with no success. Luckily, I also threw 5" senkos. Since it was cloudy and windy I had thought that a bait that made noise would be best as the fish would be willing to travel, but no. Deadstick was the only thing that worked. Thrown very tight to the shallow end of laydowns to be exact. I caught most on a green/chartreuse laminate, some on a red laminate, and also several on a solid watermelon after the sky cleared a bit. Typical half day at Wilson pond in terms of size and numbers... 12 largemouth, largest 5 went 14 lbs, biggest was 3.5 lbs.

Two weeks earlier my brother came out. He is a walleye fisherman from Minnesota who primarily fishes live bait. He fished the senko like it was a minnow on an unweighted line, bail open and finger on the line to detect strikes. I expected he would guthook them but to my surprise most he was able to liphook. He schooled me, catching a pig 4.25 smallie and two 3.5 largemouths, among the dozen or so he caught in a half day. I caught the same numbers but my largest was 3.25. Again all on senkos. One good thing about Wilson is that you dont catch too many small fish.

Most every trip all summer I have been able to hook several very good fish, in fact, in mid day I had taken to patrolling the weedy shallows during high sunlight and dunking senkos in front of big bass (3-5lbs) I see just swimming around in 3-4 feet of water (78 degree water at the highest). Usually they spook several times and then hit the senko out of sheer orneriness. I wouldnt make a bet on this style of fishing but it has been fun!
