Submitted by Fish Atlanta Guide Service

Date Fished: 9/28/2007

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

I was ill earlier this week and the later part of last week which is why it has been a while since I have posted a report. I didn't get out on the water much and the days I did we had nothing but smaller fish less than five pounds as the lake had started the turnover process with the cooler nights we had a couple of weks ago. We were still getting good numbers but the bigger fish had moved off of the offshore structure where they were bunched up and instead were just scattered cruising shallow grass lines making them harder to locate. I look for the turnover process to be finishing up in the next few days with the cool nights we are going to be getting and the rain we had yesterday afternoon. The fish right now are doing two things the lake has stained up a bit and many of the deeper fish are holding tight to brushpiles in ten to fifteen feet of water. This is mostly a numbers bite of smaller fish in the one to three pound range and the best bait has been a trickworm on a jighead. Most of the better fish now have moved shallow on grasslines and flats and are on the move looking for schools of shad in shallow water. This is the time of year when I will start to use swimbaits and lipless cranks more often and plastics less often. For anyone who likes fishing moving baits October is the best time of year to fish Varner with swimbaits spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits. For anyone who wants to just go out and try for a big one with a swimbait now through the end of October is the best time of year to do so. The fish in the photo was caught swimming a trickworm over a shallow ledge and weighed around five pounds.-Randall
