Put in at Osborne at first light Thursday morning the 11th.Took my not so experienced brother in law out with me and headed up river for a change. The wind was blowing with the out going tide and it got gustier as the day wore on.Gave bro-N-law a black buzzbait and told him to chunk and wind.He was very skeptical that a bass would bite this, but I insisted he use it,as he isnt very experienced and the buzzer is fairly easy to use.He caught 2 bass the first 15 minutes of fishing (about 2 lbs each) and was happier than if he had just won a club tourny."I cant believe bass bite these things!" he said."Well they do ,and if you werent throwing it,I would be!"I replied."Just want to see you catch some bass,I wouldnt steer you wrong". My Skitter pop was another story,I got a few nice strikes, but failed to connect to anything.Meanwhile Bro-N-law caught 2 more small keeper sized bass and then while I was fighting The trolling motor in the wind,I heard a BaaLAMM!..Bro had a nice bass on,it jumped a few times and figured by glance it was over 4 pounds,as he reeled her near the boat,I knelt down to try and lip her,she flew airborne again and hit the side of the boat and I saw her real good, every bit of 6 lbs...easy.Then his line snapped and she swam off. Down by 4 fish and the sun peeping out,as well as bro-N-law geting cocky and overzealous in the back of the boat,I opted to tie on my money bait(Bombers Fat "A") and commenced to put it on the bass,I caught 8 bass including 2 smallmouths about 2 lbs. a piece,6 LMB(lost a few too),also caught a nice crappie,a 7lb.bowfin,3 big brim and a white perch.Didnt hear much more bragging from bro as his bite died nd he wouldnt switch baits. He had to leave at 12 so we booked by noon after having fun on the James, even in gail force winds. The fish are getting aggressive quick and we caught all our fish in the main river,no pits or creeks.Let me know if anyone is doing anything in the pits.Good luck and catch and release.
