Fishing at JW Smith has been great this past week and actually got better from my last report. There is a very strong topwater/toad bite and we got an estimated forty to sixty blowups and over twenty fish a day for two days. The great thing is the number of quality fish from two to eight pounds we are catching. Most of the fish are two pounds or better with a bunch in the three to five pound range. Best baits have been toads and a homemade buzzbait I designed just for JW Smith. Both of my clients at JW Smith this week didn't want to give up their loaned buzzbaits at the end of the day and I had to let them take them home.LOL. I don't think either caught a buzzbait fish until tying it on then they started catching them. In the photo is an eight pounder I got on a eight inch wake type swimbait and a topwater fish caught on back to back casts. The eight pounder followed the smaller hooked fish back toward the boat before hitting the swimbait. For trips to JW Smith the lake is closed on Thursdays and Fridays and closes until next March at the end of this month. I do have days open before it closes.
