Water Clarity: 1 foot The first day of the Fish 'N Fever 2-day Classic out of live Oak Landing in the middle Delta came off without a hitch and the results were about as expected, although the water level was lower than it has been all year. The majority of the contestants went south and most had 5 fish limits but the average weight was less than 7 pounds.
Two boats which went north (Tombigbee and Alabama Rivers) had 12+ pounds and 10+ pounds. Two boats had 9+ pounds (I don't know which way then went) and six had more than 8 pounds. Most of the anglers I know went south and had 7 pounds or less. The water being so low the bite tight on the deep banks was not there, and the good bite in the grass in the rivers was not on because the grass of out of the water. People who were catching 15 to 20 fish the past few days were lucky to catch a small limit today. Conditions will be the same tomorrow so I look for the anglers to struggle again, with the winning stringers coming from the upper Delta. I'm sure some fish were caught in the middle Delta (Miflin Lake, McReynolds Lake and Tensaw Lake) but the one team I know who went to Tensaw Lake did not do well. I will not be attending the weigh-in tomorrow evening so will rely on Down South or one of the other contestants to give us the results.
