Date Fished: 10/28/2007
Water Clarity: 6 inches

I almost didn't make it out today due to the high winds and the recent storm, but I had to try out my new kayak, actually my wife's new kayak - Heritage Redfish 12. When I arrived at the ramp, I found a handful of trailers in the parking lot. As expected, the water was very turbid, around 6" visibility.

Like a kid on a Christmas Day, I quickly unloaded the kayak from my car and got her ready. As soon as I left the ramp, the wind immediately pushed me eastward. I threw wacky Senkos all the way to Route 1 without a bite. I did see a bankie land a nice catfish (~ 7 pounds). Tired, cold and dejected, I was thinking to myself, "how in the world am I going to paddle back to the ramp?" I tied on a minnow crankbait as I slowly, I mean slowly paddled back. Not even a bump or a snag...sheesh...what's going on?

I think the recent storm flushed out all the grass along with the fish to the Bay!

I paddled all the way to Route 123 bridge and decided to drift back to the ramp and call it quits. BTW, I saw large clarifiers on the left. Is that facility a waste water treatment plant?

As I was drifting back, I saw 2 kids fishing off the barge under the Route 123 bridge. I don't know what they were using, but I saw them catch 2 bass!!!! I thought about paddling over and asking what they were using for bait/lure, but decided against it. I was too tired by now. What an exhausting day.

Now a question to y'all PROS out there....

After a storm, when the water's turbid, what's the best lure to use? Do you fish it slow or fast? Should I be using scent? Since all the grass is gone, where shall I target them?

Thanks again and tight lines!

Alan
