Fished Lake Purdy today from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Caught 12 spots and 2 cats on cranks and a spoon. Some fish came from brush in a creek channel and the others came trolling a shadrap around. Nothing over 1 lb on the spots but it was better than getting skunked. While headed back towards the rental beach, my trolling motor stopped working and smoke started coming out of the casing on top. Thats not a good sign, I'm guessing that the control board got fried. I paddled back from down past the dam and got back to the beach as it got dark. The lake came alive with shad as the sun went down, dozens of pods of shad surfaced all over the main lake. I didn't see any fish busting the shad though. The shad looked tiny, only looked to be inch and a half or so.

I've also been fishing a small no name lake near the Cahaba from the banks after work for the last couple weeks. I've had decent luck with cranks real slow and a jig, usually 3-4 a day but one day I got 9. I've had bigger fish on the crank so far but more fish on the jig. I caught one near 5 lbs the day after it rained and 2 others near 4 lbs.

I think I'm gonna keep hitting the largemouths until I get moved over to GA and hit up Lanier. I'm gonna give it another try in my canoe but I need to find some of the smaller lakes that are a little more canoe compatible. Looks like I might be in the market for a new trolling motor too.
