Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Fished the HD Marine Classic on Saturday so I figured I would post what worked (at least for numbers not size) for me. First I want to say thanks to Lee and LaDonna and all the others at HD Marine for all that they do. They always run a great tournament and it went very well. I only had a chance to prefish for a couple of hours and my partner, who has cancer, wasn't feeling up to fishing so I had to fish alone. Had to work a half day on Friday so I stayed in Beaver Dam Creek on Friday afternoon due to short amount of time. I went all the way to the back or Beaver Dam Creek and found active fish but I couldn't get them to bite. I actually saw some really big largemouth running in the shallows so that's where I decided to start Saturday. On Saturday I fished a buzz bait for 2 hours, then I tried junk fishing for another two hours and never even got a hit. I finally moved out past the two bridges and found a couple of humps mid creek and saw a lot of schooling activity. I caught a few on SPRO Arkua Shad Jr's before the surface activity subsided. These were a mix of small spots and largemouth and were barely keepers at 12-13 inches. I switched over to the drop shot rig and started catching as many small spots as any one would ever want-All of these fish were 10 to 14 inches. My drop shot rig consisted of a 1/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook, Zoom Finesse worm in Pumkin/Chartruese and a 1/8th Tru Tungsten drop weight on 8 pound Berkley Transition line. These spots were relating to steeper banks and most hits came at 10 to 20 feet. Never got a big bite but caught several small limits and got tired of culling up a half an ounce at a time. It was a fun day of fishing on a beautiful, almost full pool, undeveloped lake. If you have a moment, say a prayer for my partner, Jeff Y., who couldn't make it. Good luck and God Bless.
