Water Clarity: 0 I have been reading the posts on Assunpink and how the fishing has declined in the last couple of years since the construction of the new ramp and dock and with the tournaments. Assunpink WMA has two other smaller lakes and the only think worse then a tournament on the big lake (Assunpink)is when the flotilla assaults the smaller Stone Tavern or Rising Sun Lakes. I plan to go to one of the lakes and if a tournament is on, I can tell by the overflowing parking lots and I go somewhere else.
I fish a kayak and usually enter Assunpink at the shallow end where you can't launch from a trailer. Three years ago I caught one fish weighed and photographed at 6lbs 8 oz and I know I had 2 a little larger. Last year I caught quite a few bass in the 2-4 lb range and noted less fish in general and this year was much slower with mostly bass under a pound and some pickerel. On a warm, late October night, I believe 10/29, I fished from an hour before sunset till a couple of hours after dark. I had 3 bass before I got 50' from the lauch and another 10 or so with 3 or 4 pickerel within an hour. All fish were small and caught on either buzz bait or Senkos. Things slowed down but it was such a nice still night I stayed out all alone on the lake. About an hour after dark I had a nice hit on the Senko and caught a bass in the 4-5 lb range. It was certainly the best fish of the last couple of years. I never keep any fish from the lake and I only hope the tournaments and white bucket brigade go elsewhere in the future.
