Subject: Lake Lanier and Boat Ramp Info, Georgia

Submitted by EZ Spin (ip 65.105.26.227)

Date Fished: 11/19/2007
Water Temperature: 58
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

Just spoke with the CORPs and they said Shoal Creek has about a week or less left and Tidwell should be about two and a half weeks (they said that's the unofficial guess). Pray for rain. Both ramps have been packed in case you haven't been and I have found that putting in around 1:00 PM on weekdays and pulling out after dark will be the shortest wait. Plan to have a long wait on weekends and the Holiday. The Chattahoochee River, on the other hand, is full and running but the trout fishing has been slow due to low oxygen levels! It probably does no good to say it here because most of us are experienced launchers but if it takes you longer than 5 minutes to launch a boat then you should work on your launching skills. I can launch a boat in under 2 minutes by myself so I don’t understand how it can take 20 minutes to launch or load a jet ski. Enough about the Ramps and Lake Levels... Fishing on Lake Lanier is very good 'cause the fish don't have a lot of water to hide in. We bought some blue backs and trout at Hammond's and went through 2 dozen and 6 trout in about three hours flat lining the other day before dark with a mixed bag of stripers and bass mid way on to the back of two lower lake creeks. Lot's of spotted bass were eating around the surface in about 25 to 40 foot of water and they seemed to want a 1/2 ounce SPRO Buck tail fished slow and steady. I am sure a Fishhead Spin or a Rooster Tail would have worked OK too. The spots have been eating the drop shot finesse worm on the drop offs near the creek mouths later in the day. Good luck, God Bless and keep praying for rain! Eric Aldrich
