Date Fished: 11/18/2007 Got on the Big Cecil around 10:30, going for stripers. Worked the dam area on west side with a Lucky Craft Rick Clunn 3.5DD BDS in American Shad color. Got no bites and lost the lure in the rocks. Put on a big SPRO Arkuru Shad in the same color. On the third cast got hammered by a big striper, by bass fishing tackle standards and the fight was on big time. The fish peeled line and bent my rod over and fought like a tarpon that would not jump. I got him to the surface a couple of times to see him, but then he kept making power runs. This went on over 10 minutes of him pulling line out and the boat. Using as much drag as possible on the Pflueger Trion reel with 12lb spider wire, the 6'6" Ugly Stik in medium heavy power began to slow him down. Finally landed the big brute, and it definetely was a decent striper, weighed in at 16lb 2oz on digital scales. I would have sworn it was bigger than that, but I am still proud of it. Biggest striper that I have ever caught, and this fish fought better than any big snook or redfish that I have caught in salt water. Going back tomorrow if I can get off work early.
