  Subject: Aguamilpa, Mexico

Submitted by Oscar Moreno (ip 98.196.136.132)

Date Fished: 11/23/2007
Water Temperature: 80s
Water Clarity: 1 foot

My father and I spent two and a half days fishing with my dad in Aguamilpa Mexico during this past Thanksgiving weekend. The weather was mild to warm. Early morning temperatures were in the low 60s with afternoon highs in the mid 80s. The skies were clear during the first two days (Thursday and Friday) and partly cloudy on the last half day (Saturday). The best fishing happened in the morning using Texas-rigged senkos and deep diving crankbaits. The senkos produced the best in quantity, but the deep diving crankbait accounted for most of the bigger fish (4-6 lb). The afternoon fishing was a bit slower as the wind picked up making it difficult to fish the Texas-rigged plastics. Most of the fish were caught off points in water 10-30 feet deep. The water was stained with visibility varying from 1 foot to 3 feet.

We flew into Guadalajara and then drove to Aguamilpa lake (3.5 hours). The lake is easily accessible and all of the roads (mostly toll roads) were in good condition. Getting in and out of the lake was fairly easy. The lake is very scenic and it is surrounded by big mountains and cliffs.

Our fishing guide was very knowledgeable of the lake and the fish. He was also very friendly and service oriented and took care of all or our needs. We would fish from 6am to noon and then we would take a 90 minute break to eat lunch and rest. We would then fish from 1:30pm until 5pm. We stayed at the Bill Chapman Sr Resort and we found the accommodations outstanding.

Overall we caught approximately 180 fish. Most of the fish were between 1-3 pounds. We caught a good number of fish between 4-6 pounds, but nothing bigger than that. In summary, the fishing was excellent, lots of fun and with large number of fish. The accommodations, food and accessibility were also great.
