Water Clarity: 1 foot Fished 'ole Wheeler from 9:30 - 3:30. Cold, misty, rainy day. Just the kind of day I like to try and get one of 'em old, wise Wheeler Hawgs to bite. Only seen 4 other boats throughout the day. Some of 'em Wheeler "regulars." Started out bangin' them stumps on the channel edge with cranks and spinnerbaits. Was markin' all kinds of fish, but they weren't eatin'. Went and tried a rocky bank and started crawlin' a jig. Caught 3 nice chunks about 2-1/2 lbs. each in about 15 minutes. Couldn't stand it: Had to go back out in the middle of the lake (where the hawgs live) and chunk-n-wind (and drag a jig) for a couple more hours. Just couldn't buy a bite on the wood today. Decided to go try another rocky bank up around the dam before callin' it quits. As I rode by the ramp around 2:00, I realized I had the whole lake to myself. Decided to finish with the jig, and fished a long section of rocky bank very slowly and methodically. Was coming to the end, and the thought of just a couple more casts crossed my mind, then I'm callin' it quits. About that time, one "ticked" the 'ole jig. After a jaw breakin' hookset and a short fight, I netted one of 'em 'ole wise, Wheeler Hawgs. Weighed 9 lbs. even on my scale and the park scale. Second 9 lber. I caught at Wheeler this year; second biggest bass I ever caught. What a way to finish the day!!! Got some good pictures and released her to fight again. Hooked!
