Water Clarity: Not reported

Fishing at Varner has been a little tougher this week. The up and down water temps, fast rising water, and cold fronts have moved and scattered many of the fish in the areas I was fishing over the past few weeks. Three or four days ago we had some water that had cooled back down to 46 degrees in the back of some of the creeks and today much of that same water was all the way up to 58. Tuesday we are due for another big front and cool down with another warm up later in the week. This has really made it tough to get the numbers I was getting for the past few weeks. On the positive side if you can't get numbers you might as well go after the big ones. Friday I fished with my buddy Adam Stanton and we went fishing for big bass. Adam fished a big swimbait all day and refused to fish with anything else. We caught one fish each and Adam got the big fish he was looking for with a nine pounder on his second cast with the swimbait. Saturday I fished with Ryan Lamb who wanted to learn to target the big ones. He told me before we started fishing that he only wanted to catch one big fish so we went after the big ones again and left the small ones alone. We caught exactly one fish. Another nine pounder that Ryan is holding in the photo on the right. Today I fished with a couple of guys who came down from North Georgia to fish Varner. It was pretty tough and slow fishing. We hit a bunch of spots and caught ten smaller fish with the biggest maybe around three pounds. All the fish except one hit a worm fished slow in eight to twelve feet of water. The other fish hit a jerkbait in around six feet of water. I have just a few days left open in March and April. Just give me a call or email to book a trip.-Randall
