There was a big difference in fishing between today and yesterday. I ran to the same spot this morning that I fished yesterday morning and my clients caught 15 fish to five pounds, these fish were busting shad and schooling as good as you could ask for YESTERDAY!! This morning we never seen a fish bust shad and we fished 2 hrs without a bite.I told my client today Nathaniel from WIC that it was time for a big run up the river to fish for the big fish in the deeper water. After the 25 mile run we anchored up in a spot I haven't fished in a week and floated a couple big wild shiners under the mat of grass the first 10 minutes we never seen a thing happen with the shiners I was starting to think that someone had caught every fish in the river last night. After a 20 minute wait Nathaniel had a big boil under the cork and it was on with a perfect hook set the big fish came out from under the grass mat into the main river and strong current and started tail walking at one point this fish almost pulled Nathaniel over the side as he was trying to lean down and keep the rod tip in the water to keep her from jumping. After a fight that seemed like forever I was able to lip this beautiful 10 pound fish. A couple pictures and she was back swimming. We headed to the next spot and the first shiner that hit the water was inhaled by another big fish that weighed 8 pounds, off to the next spot where a 5 lb and 4 lb fish was caught. It wasn't a day of many but the total weight was 5 fish 33 pounds with a 10 pounder. Not sure what was up with the schooling fish today other then we had a 25 mph wind blowing against the current most of the day keeping the shad down deep.
