Recently I saw a post on this forum about the Coosa Bassmasters. It is a newly formed club that is not into high dollar, high power, high-pressure tournaments. For myself, it has been a great fit. The people I have met are friendly and genuinely love to fish.

I fished tournaments in the 70's and early 80's and got out of it due to the pressures it put on my family, my finances and me. After a long absence I stepped back in last Saturday and not only had a great time, but my partner and I actually finished 2nd. Neither of us had any experience on the upper end of Lay, but through basic searching managed to put together a five fish 9 lb+ bag.

We fished spinner bait, top water, crank baits, chatter baits and jigs all morning with limited success and finally stumbled into them on rocky banks with watermelon worms. The fish were all in less than 5 feet of water. We finished with 15 that would measure. All spots, no largemouth.

It was a nice way to come back into the competitive side of the sport.

I encourage anyone like me who would like to fish tournaments for the competition and camaraderie, but don't have the $20K+ rigs to check out the clubs website. I'm glad I did.
