Hi bassers, This will be a two part report. I went out on Stetson Pond on Saturday as the ice just went out and I wanted to run my boat for the first time this year. I launched at the dam and my Javelin fired right up like it never took a 6 month sleep. I checked all the equipment, and after everything looked good, off we went. I made a run down the pond and stopped at a couple of spot to see if the fish were awake yet. I started with a suspending j/b, nothing...then a jig, nothing...the main lake temp was 50-52 and a slight ENE breeze was blowing, so I went to the wind blown shore and found the water temp at 56. The warm top water was piling up on that shore and so were the bass... I grabbed my flipp'n stick and jig and first flip, caught a nice, fat l/m around 3 lbs. Well, that was the way it went for the next 2-3 hours. Working the wind blown shore and the l/m were so active in that warmer water that several times I would see them rush out from the brush and grab my jig as it was sinking. All my fish came in 2-4 fow on a 3/8 oz. jig around wood, and I ended my day with 17 largemouth, most around 3 and up to 4...Check out my pictures at nybass.com, search for davebass1.

Sunday....Went to Great Moose. A friend of mine told me the ice just went out this past Wed., and I love to fish the inlet and outlet this time of the year due to a hugh smelt run. Every fish in the lake is feeding up as these little morsels make their run to spawn, and I was not disappointed, but surprised... I was hoping for at the least mid to high 40's for water temps, but found 53-54 and couldn't believe it. To make things better, as I was stopped the boat, a hugh school of baitfish came swimming by and the fish were right up on top blowing up on them. I threw a suspending j/b first, and again nothing...I switched to a spinner bait and first cast nailed a 3.12 l/m, but that was all on that, so then I ran a Strike King red eye shad in two different colors and the fun began... I was using a Quantum KVD signature 7' M crank'n rod with a Quantum 1310 5.2 speed reel with that shad and that was the ticket. The bass jumped all over that bait for the next 3 hours with several l/m that went 3.13 to 4.1 and lots of 2.12 to 3 lbs. I managed only 2 smallies which was really strange because up until 3 or 4 years ago, all you could catch in the inlet or outlet was BIG smallies up to 5 pounds, and 3-4 pounders were the norm., but I'm not complaining with all the action and one big smallie did make an appearance. She hit the shad out in 16 fow just as the bait hit the water. When I set the hook, up she came and all I could see was line coming out of her mouth. She weighed in at 4.1 and was nice and fat. That was my last smallie for the day, but right after that I did catch a 16" brown trout that made it's way into the frying pan as soon as I got home...and it was delicious..... Now, as the weatherman predicted, it got a little colder,( starting air temp was 42 at 0800 w/o the breeze) and it started to rain so I got to check out my rain suit as well...LOL I ended my with 16 largemouth that were from 2.10 to 4.1, and 2 smallies, 1 at 2 lbs. and the other at 4.1, so far this has been a very good spring, WHEN IT FINALLY GOT HERE...LOL Fish were caught from 6-16 fow where ever the bait was. Thanks for reading friends, and you can check out my pictures on nybass.com I can't put any on here because they are too big. Fishing my first tournament this coming Saturday, so I'll give you an update on that...take care friends..... David
