  Subject: Lake St Catherine, Vermont

Date Fished: 5/4/2008
Water Temperature: 53
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

Fished Saturday with a partner who fished Champlain the day before. He thought the fishing was slow on Champ, he found out the fishing on St Cath was painfully slow. Water temps had dropped 12 degrees since last weekend. I knew we were in trouble when I saw zero bass cruising as we made our first stop. Any fish that had been on beds days earlier were now gone. He caught the first LMB on a soft twitch-bait and two hours later I caught my first fish. It wasn't happening there today. Headed for the main lake to try for SMB as he likes to fish for those brown things he calls bass. This wasn't going to work either, though he did get one about 2.5lbs on his soft twitch-bait while I caught two pretty(small) LMB on a hard-twitch-bait. He thought we should try some more shallow water, so we headed south. After more than two hours of mostly nothing, the water warmed to 53 and we finally found a small number of active LMB that hit spinner-baits on the bank being hit by the wind. We worked hard for 20 bass to 2.5lbs, and I think I my partner is going to stay out of my boat for a while. I fished alone on Sunday under cloudy skies. I started out where we found a few the day before and caught two right away then fought to catch two more over the next two hours. Caught a break when the wind picked up and the water hit it's magical 53 and doubled my catch for the day in 15 minutes on the spinner-bait. I picked up four more over the next hour, but I was so wore out from all the casting that I had to call it a day. For sure a tough fishing weekend considering it's springtime.
