Date Fished: 5/13/2008
Water Temperature: 69
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

Got on Smith Lake Tuesday morning for some good topwater action, and it was on. We fished from 5:30 to 11:00 and boated 10 spots, 6 overs, 2 slots, and 2 unders. 7 of the fish including 2 over 4 pounds (22 inches) came on topwater baits fished in 20 to 60 feet of water before 9:30. Lost 2 really good fish and had several window shoppers (no hook ups) on the morning as well. The other 3 including 2 overs came after the topwater bite ended on bucktail jigs about the same depth.

We didn't notice any blow-up action on shad, although we marked plenty of them. It feels like Smith is about to go wild with topwater action. We wasted some time fishing some pockets for largemouths but no luck.
